Dreamworks and the shaping of contemporary animation
The aim of this project is to investigate the contribution made by Dreamworks to shaping the style of contemporary mainstream animation feature films. Although Dreamworks have swamped the market with 29 features in 16 years, earning a combined gross of over $10 billion (more than any other studio), critics have tended to focus their attention on Disney and Pixar. In particular the research will focus on the role of intertextuality in developing what has become an industrially pervasive, self-reflexive mode of audience engagement.
